Patrick McGreevy


F/Lt. Patrick McGreevy is a 29 year veteran of the Michigan State Police. He recently retired as a Commander of the Lapeer, Sandusky, Caro and Bad Axe State Police Posts.

F/Lt. McGreevy began his law enforcement career in 1980 as a seasonal police officer with the Ocean City, Maryland police department.  In 1982, he joined the Michigan State Police as a member of the 97th trooper recruit school.  Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Flat Rock Post and served as a trooper at the Sandusky, Detroit, St. Clair, New Baltimore, and Richmond Posts.  During this time period, F/Lt. McGreevy was a K-9 handler at the St. Clair and New Baltimore Posts.
In 1996, he was promoted to sergeant and transferred to the Brighton Post. In 1997, he was transferred to East Lansing Headquarters and served in a staff position in the Recruiting and Selection Section. In 1999, he was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the 3rd District Headquarters in Saginaw in a command staff capacity.  In 2002, he was promoted to the level of First Lieutenant and assigned to East Lansing Headquarters as Commander of the Operations Section. In 2004, he received a lateral transfer to assume command of the Lapeer and Sandusky Posts. In February of 2011, he also assumed additional command responsibility of the Caro and Bad Axe Posts.
He also attended the FBI National Academy and is a graduate of the 209th session.
 
F/Lt. McGreevy began his association with the FTO program in 1994 when he became an FTO and began training new probationary troopers at the New Baltimore and Richmond Posts.  Upon his promotion to the Brighton Post, he was the FTO sergeant responsible for supervising the training and development of new probationary troopers.
 
In 1996, he became an FTO school instructor and upon his assignment to East Lansing Headquarters in 1997, he became the Department’s FTO Coordinator. 
F/Lt. McGreevy oversaw the field training programs of several hundred probationary troopers in addition to coordinating and instructing numerous FTO schools for the Department.  During his assignment as a Staff District Lieutenant in Saginaw, his responsibilities included the supervision of the District’s FTO programs at each of the 10 Posts.  As a Post Commander, F/Lt. McGreevy was responsible for the Command supervision of the FTO training for all new probationary troopers who were assigned to the Lapeer, Sandusky, Caro and Bad Axe Posts. 
 
In his 17 year association with the FTO program, F/Lt. McGreevy trained and mentored three subsequent State Police FTO Coordinators in addition to instructing at all State Police FTO schools since 1996.
 
Prior to his law enforcement career, F/Lt. McGreevy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1978 and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Michigan State University in 1980.
