Ed DreslinskiEd Dreslinski is the President and Lead Instructor of DeWolf & Associates. Lt. Dreslinski retired after 25 ½ years with the Ann Arbor Police Department and was last assigned as the day shift commander. In addition, to his primary responsibilities, Lt. Dreslinski was the Chief Firearms instructor and FTO Commander for his department. Ed brings decades of personal experience to provide a unique and engaging learning environment.
Lt. Dreslinski began his career in 1992. Lt. Dreslinski became a FTO in 1995 and was trained in the San Jose Model in 1996. Lt. Dreslinski served as an FTO, mentoring dozens of recruit officers on their successful career path and a number of recruits who failed to meet the standard. In 2003, when he was promoted to sergeant, Lt. Dreslinski, became one of the department’s FTO Coordinators and served in that capacity until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2012, when he became the FTO Commander. |
In 2009, then sergeant Dreslinski, was assigned as the dispatch supervisor and City of Ann Arbor’s Emergency Manager. During his tenure as the dispatch supervisor he was assigned with several tasks, which were eliminating fire dispatch services and beginning a co-location to a shared police dispatch services for all of Washtenaw County. In 2012, he was tasked with completing a consolidation of dispatch services with Washtenaw County and eliminated the City’s dispatch service. During his 3 years in dispatch, Lt. Dreslinski supervised 22 personnel, in a 24/7 operation. Lt. Dreslinski was involved in the hiring process and selection of 3 citizens who were trained through a rigorous 18-week CTO program into fully functioning 911 call takers and police dispatchers.
During his time as the Emergency Manager, Lt. Dreslinski oversaw primary responsibility for an all hazards planning, training, mitigating, response and recovery aspects for the entire City of Ann Arbor. Additional assignments in his career, Lt. Dreslinski was a SWAT team member for 9 years working his way to assistant team leader, as a sergeant. Lt. Dreslinski also was a Detective for 2 years. Lt. Dreslinski has instructed in several capacities for over 14 years with Ann Arbor PD as a FTO, Firearms instructor, SWAT instructor and tactical response. Lt. Dreslinski has also taught at several Citizen Police Academies in a number of areas including emergency operations, SWAT and firearms. Lt. Dreslinski received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management from Northwood University in Midland Michigan. He achieved his Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Technology focusing on Emergency Management from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti Michigan. He is also a graduate of the School of Staff and Command at Eastern Michigan University. Lt. Dreslinski has been married for over 30 years and has 2 sons that played Division 1 football in college (Air Force and Western Michigan). Both sons are pilots, one in the USAF and the other in commercial aviation. |
