Jeff DanielLt. Jeff Daniel began his 26 ½ years of service in law enforcement as a deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office assigned to Corrections from 1995-1996. He worked predominantly booking inmates, main jail guard duties and serving on the Cell Extraction Team. In 1996 he left the Sheriff’s Office to work at the Shelby Township Police Department.

Lt. Daniel retired in 2021 as a Lieutenant after obtaining that rank in 2015. Duties during his career included supervising a 10 member patrol shift, a 12 member Communications Unit, a 5 member Traffic Bureau and as the Deputy Director of Emergency Management. He spent a large portion of his patrol career involved in Traffic as a Motorcycle Officer, Fatal Crash Investigator and Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer, FTO and SRO. As one of the leading FTO’s, the FTO Coordinator selected him to review and create a new recruit manual.
Upon being promoted to Sergeant in 2007 he worked in the Detective Bureau until returning to road patrol and being assigned to supervise the Communications Unit in 2012. The 24/7 PSAP dispatches for all police, fire and EMS services for the township. In those duties he revised and updated the CTO program to mirror the San Jose Model that was currently being used by the FTO’s. He was directly involved in all the hiring, training and evaluation of equipment and oversaw the complete remodel of a fully functioning backup PSAP center. As the Deputy Director of Emergency Management during the COVID-19 epidemic, Lt. Daniel helped lead the township in revising policies and procuring PPE for the township. During his tenure he was a use of force instructor, motorcycle instructor, police academy coordinator, EVO instructor, Honor Guard, conducted numerous internal investigations and served on the Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission as the Chairman of the Distracted Driving Action Team. Lt. Daniel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Saginaw Valley State University while competing in Track and Field in the hammer throw and shot put. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command Class 393. Lt. Daniel served for 6 years as the president of the local POAM and from 2017 - 2021 was president of the Command Officers Union for Shelby Township Police Department. |
